Serious About My Art?

Sometimes I wonder if I am ever going to get serious about my art instead of playing and having fun!

Always Experimenting
My latest experiments!
This has been the month for experimenting with color (as if I ever manage to paint without doing that). I wanted to see what would happen if I tried painting some of my photos of the California beach, that I took a while back, in both watercolor and oils.
Goal: Could I get similar paintings in water color and oil? Since I didn't want both to be exactly the same scene, I chose one photo that I took at twilight and one during bright afternoon sunlight right after a storm. The watercolor isn't quite finished, but I think I am going to leave the oil painting as is.

Back To Experiments
Here I am on St. Patrick's Day, and I am back to my experiments. I have some acrylic art supplies on hand that I haven't gotten a chance to experiment with - some of my acrylic mediums mainly, and an acrylic spray paint. So today, I am playing again. I am using an inexpensive canvas so there is no pressure. I intend to layer so that if I don't like the 1st or 2nd layer, I can add another. Because it is a spring day, and because of the acrylic spray, I am outdoors. Also, because it is a spring day, the bugs are out. Luckily, some of the medium I am using is texture. Between the acrylic paint and the textured medium, I should simply be able to make use of the bugs as more texture for the painting. I have no expectations for this painting - other than to learn.
Update: The last stage of the painting now seems to be dry. You have heard the saying, "Are we there yet?" I am trying to decide - is it there yet? We'll see.

Ocean Study
Thought you might be interested in viewing my latest project. It is from a class that I am working on from Craftsy called Oil Painting: Sand, Sea, and Sky by Edward Minoff. The class starts off with a study done on toned paper with white gouache and graphite.
Next there will be a color study and then and oil painting. I have really enjoyed the Craftsy classes that I have taken. I will show you the color study and painting later once they are finished.
